What MercyShips accomplishes

While I'm working on another post I thought I'd update everyone who isn't a part of our Facebook group of some stuff Kate has been posting. We're wanting people to get a better idea of all the crazy procedures MercyShips is able to accomplish here!

Here's Kate's posts:

Hello to all! It's been a few days since we have posted anything. We are well and staying busy at work. I have enjoyed a day off by shopping and relaxing by the pool, while Steven has had to work. These past couple weeks have been a bit challenging for the ward as well as for outpatients. The ward has been experiencing more complications than usual with infections and emergency surgeries. In outpatients it has been a little discouraging with the progress of wound healing. By this time in the field service it should be slowing down a little but it has been as busy. I would invite you to pray for our ward and for our patients- that we would see healing and progress so that when the time comes to leave in June we can leave in confidence that those we have served are healthy and ready to return home.

The women's health program started about 2 weeks ago. They had the first dress ceremony on Friday. In outpatients we have had the privilege to discharge 3 women. They have a recovery process yet but their surgeries have been the start to a new life. "The birth of a child should be joyful. But for many women in developing nations, it’s the beginning of a downward spiral into pain, loneliness, and poverty. For those without access to routine medical or surgical care during and after delivery, chronic medical issues such as vesicovaginal fistulas and rectovaginal fistulas can lead to spousal abandonment and community ostracism. These medical problems are relatively unknown in western countries where cesarean sections are widely available. They occur during prolonged or difficult labors, and they can have devastating physical, emotional, and spiritual consequences."

I'm working on a "catch-up" post from the last couple weeks and then working on a video to post after that! Thanks for reading and watching!
